About Michael

My decision to enter humanist activities came in 1967 just after I was standing in front of factory entrances selling newspapers to the workers as they entered and exited at the beginning of the 6:30 am 1st shift and the end of the 3rd shift. I loved those men and women as much as they loved me. While I was walking away that morning I noticed an article exposing the results of a study which resulted in documenting a fact that 60% of the people that worked in that factory would die in the first year of their retirement. I felt ashamed. Why did I feel ashamed, I was only 12. I felt ashamed because I was walking away with a pocket full of dimes that they had given me from their hard earned wages. I felt ashamed to think that the hundreds of thousands of books I seen in the libraries, which made the books suspect to me, hadn't yet offered a better life for my brothers and sisters, fellow members of my species. After stewing in those thoughts for a few years, just before 16 years old I could take it no longer and began my long journey in search of wisdom which resulted in the gifts of having been able to experience some of the greatest of mankind and some of the worst of mankind. Almost 40 years of adventure after adventure.
